A Kinetic Press needs Burnt Residue and a 25-block drop
The Kinetic Press turns Burnt Residue into Gold and Seed when the material falls from 25 or more blocks high. The height requirement is the defining setup constraint. A horizontal feeder or a short drop can deliver the right item and still fail to transform it.
The official page also warns that material landing without enough height can rest on top and block later inputs. Build the drop path before placing the Press, and reserve a clear landing area for both Gold and Seed outputs.
Prepare Burnt Residue upstream
Burnt Residue belongs to the wider Shaker and Gold-production context. Keep its input route separate from raw Wet Sand until the correct conversion has happened. If the Press is idle, inspect the item name and matter state first; adding more material cannot fix a wrong input.
Use a controlled feeder while measuring the shaft. A small test batch shows whether the material reaches the Press at the required height and whether the landing area can accept the outputs. Once the transformation is confirmed, copy the module rather than extending an untested vertical line.
Measure the vertical route
The verified rule is a fall from 25 or more blocks. Count the blocks in the actual build, including the landing position, instead of estimating from the camera angle. Terrain edits and destroyed blocks can change the effective height, so recheck after reshaping the world.
Leave an inspection opening along the shaft. A fully enclosed tower hides a resting Burnt Residue pixel and makes it difficult to tell whether the Press is waiting for height, input, or output space. The exact collision behavior around every block is to be confirmed in future Early Access builds.
Separate Gold and Seed at the bottom
Gold and Seed are distinct outputs. Give each a visible destination and enough buffer space before adding another feeder. A shared landing floor can work for a short test, but a Filter or dedicated route is easier to maintain once both outputs feed different production chains.

Use angled Launchers to clear blockages
The official Kinetic Press page recommends angled Launchers as a way to clear a blockage without interrupting falling material. Set up a clearing row beside the landing area, then direct the unwanted pile toward a safe buffer. Do not place the launcher where it can intercept the falling input before the required drop is complete.
When a pile forms, pause the feeder, inspect the landing tile, and move only the blocked material. Restart with one small batch and watch the full fall. This sequence distinguishes a height problem from a downstream capacity problem.
Common Kinetic Press failures
- Input is Residue rather than Burnt Residue.
- The drop is shorter than 25 blocks.
- Material lands on a filled output tile and cannot move.
- A Launcher clears the wrong row and interrupts the falling input.
- Gold or Seed has no destination after transformation.
Fix the first failed condition you can observe, then retest. Avoid changing the shaft, feeder, and outputs simultaneously because you will lose the evidence that identifies the original failure.

Run a controlled height test
Mark the 25-block drop with a visible wall or platform, send one Burnt Residue item, and watch the landing. If it rests on top, verify the height and the output tile before touching the feeder. A controlled test gives you a reusable reference when terrain is changed later.
Keep the press module serviceable
Place the clearing Launcher, Gold route, and Seed route outside the falling column. That keeps the required drop unobstructed and gives you a safe way to remove a pile. Leave the shaft open to inspection and document the current version in your blueprint notes.
